Major in Global Affairs

Global Immersion

The Global Affairs major champions all students who wish to complement their studies with immersive global experiences in Houston and beyond.

Study Abroad

We strongly encourage Global Affairs students to study abroad, which is why we will usually accommodate requests for elective transfer credit. We work closely with the Office of Study Abroad, Rice Global, and the Center for Languages and Intercultural Communication to ensure that students can seamlessly integrate their studies abroad into their GLBE curriculum.  For the major’s launch in Spring 2026, we will curate the growing menu of study abroad options at Rice for easy navigation.

Several participating departments (e.g. Anthropology, Art History, and Political Science) offer courses with a study abroad component.

Global Research and Service Opportunities

We collaborate closely with the Center for Civic Leadership to help students secure opportunities for limited-term global research and service such as the Loewenstern Fellowship, the Moody Global Fellowship, and the Wagoner Foreign Study Scholarship. For the major’s launch in Spring 2026, we will curate the growing menu of global research and service opportunities facilitated by Rice for easy navigation.

Clubs and Organizations

Rice undergraduates are active in many student organizations, some of which will be of special interest to GLBE majors: Across All Borders, Baker Institute Student Forum, Rice Journal of Public Policy, Rice Model United Nations, and Rice UNICEF, among others.
