PS-GSA
The Political Science Graduate Student Association (PS-GSA) is composed of all graduate students in Rice’s political science department. We are an entirely student-led organization and have a board of elected representatives whose goal is to represent graduate student interests within the department of political science. The current officers of PS-GSA are listed below.
The PS-GSA has three main purposes. First, we foster better professional and personal relationships among graduate students and between graduate students and faculty. Second, we provide a forum for concerns, both professional and personal, about graduate student life. Third, we foster professional development among graduate students.
In addition to generally advocating for graduate students, we frequently host social events among students and faculty including happy hours, coffee chats, and community-oriented service activities. We also organize various professional development workshops and have made a peer mentorship program catered towards new graduate students. Recently, we have started giving yearly grants to students engaging in collaborative research in the department. Our main goal is to improve the graduate student experience in political science so we’re always open to new ideas! The sense of community in this department is fantastic, and PS-GSA is one of the things that helps accomplish that.
