Sara Polo

Areas of Interest:
Major areas of research include the causes and diffusion of terrorism, the use of terrorist tactics in civil war, ethnic conflicts, and spatial analysis of conflict.

Dr. Polo’s research focuses on the causes, diffusion, and targets of domestic terrorism and on the determinants of rebel groups’ tactics in civil war, particularly the use of selective and indiscriminate violence. Her current projects examine why groups use terrorism in civil war, how terrorist tactics diffuse between ethnic groups, and the relationship between government repression and dissidents’ choice of tactics in intrastate conflicts.
