Professor Marschall's research focuses on local politics, educational policy, participation, and issues of race and ethnicity. Her book, Choosing Schools: Consumer Choice and the Quality of American Schools (Princeton University Press - coauthored with Mark Schneider and Paul Teske) was recipient of the Policy Studies Association Aaron Wildavsky Award for the Best Policy Book in 2000-2001. She is currently working on a project investigating immigrant parent involvement in schools, communities and politics (with Katharine Donato, Prof. of Sociology at Vanderbilt University), which is funded by The National Science and Russell Sage Foundations as well Vanderbilt's Center for Nashville Studies. She is also continuing work on a large-scale study of minority incorporation in local politics. Her research has appeared in such journals as American Political Science Review, American Journal of Political Science, Educational Policy, Political Behavior, State Politics and Policy Quarterly, Social Science Quarterly, and Urban Affairs Review. Finally, Professor Marschall has taught courses on urban and subnational politics, public policy, research methods, and data analysis.
